It’s too easy to get yourself in water that is too deep for you to handle, then miraculously as you struggle a cramp can hit at any time. As you struggle for help the last gasp can come and you are down for the count. You had better hope someone that can do something that would save you.

In business sometime people have been known to over commit themselves, or have made a wrong turn and found themselves on the rocks gasping for air.

All things in moderation.
A great quote, however some people would have you take it too far. Anyone that has moved ahead in business would tell you that they got there by taking some risks.

If you want to get ahead in business, it may be timely to have strategies to keep you from drowning. I do not advocate that you only remain in the shallows, however know your limitations before you get out of your depth.

Buoyancy devices.
Great for kids in the pool, a few chunks of foam or air filled plastic tubes on the arms can be a great support to keep the head out of the water. This could be like a well set up business plan to ensure you have researched the facts and can get on with your business knowing that you have peace of mind. A big wave could still swamp you, however you can still swim away with enough forewarning.

Swim between the flags

This way you are being monitored by the lifesavers, great idea, if you go under you can be pulled out quickly. If you drift too far they can warn you, so you are supported either way. This could be akin professional support services, the Accountant, Solicitor etc. Whom you employ to watch the details happen.

Swimming lessons
For the adventurous, lessons can build on your weaknesses to ensure you have the strength to handle a range of conditions, the stamina to go on and the skills to read the conditions. Training and development is an important factor here as you can gain all of the above, while keeping a strong measure of control by your own actions. Fatigue could get the better of you and you need to know your limits.

Start in the shallows
Mother always insisted on this for me, so far I have not drowned but the thought that people were having more fun out in the deep was a force I could not ignore. Starting small and slowly building the business is a great way to have all the advantages of being in business.

Be aware of cramps
So painful are cramps that even the avid swimmer can be caught by surprise. You can guard against them by taking the necessary precautions like not going in the water straight after a meal. For the businessperson this can relate to not jumping in without enough research, drowning this way is a guaranteed to be painful.

Summary
You can use any of the above methods to stop drowning in the deep end, however if you couple them together you can soon have the collective effort work for you in a more powerful way. So happy swimming and avoid the deep end if you do not have the skills to handle it!
